Extra Features – iceScrum

Obsolete iceScrum documention (R6#14+) This documentation applies only to old iceScrum R6. For new iceScrum v7, click here.

iceScrum Pro brings major features but also some extra enhancements that help you managing your agile projects.

Create story in the backlog

In regular Scrum projects, we recommend the use of the sandbox. This a good place for the Product Owner to create the stories from raw needs and then refine and rethink them. Once they are well-defined, stories can be moved to the backlog where the wait for being estimated and implemented by the team (or transformed into a task / feature).

However, when stories are already well-known and defined, you may want to create stories directly in the backlog. iceScrum Pro gives the Product Owner this ability.

The product Owner just has to click on the “New” button in the backlog and enter the story details just like in the sandbox. The difference is that the story will be given the state Accepted and will be available directly at the bottom of the story backlog.

Copy to another project

iceScrum provides a copy feature that is limited to the current project. This is enough for most of the projects. However, it may be useful to copy stories from one project to another. iceScrum Pro brings this copy feature, between sandboxes or backlogs of two different projects.

This feature overrides the existing “copy” menu: You can copy several stories by selecting them and clicking on the “copy” toolbar menu, or copy them one by one from their drop-down menu.

To do so, the user needs to be Product Owner of both the projects. Please note that stories need to be in the sandbox or in the backlog to be copied. Their tags, attachments, comments and acceptance tests are also copied (actors are kept if found in the destination project). The feature and the dependences associations are lost. The “origin” field of the new story is filled with the original project name and the current user becomes the creator.

This feature can be used for large-scale projects where starting with a top-level project with big stories and features is recommended. Then, the project is split into smaller ones to start working in properly sized teams. iceScrum Pro gives you then the ability to copy your stories from the top-level project to the projects the teams are actually working on.

Filter by user

In order to work efficiently, you may want to know what a co-worker is working on. iceScrum Pro brings a filter by user in the sprint plan to give you this information.

This feature is available for everybody in the project because it is intended to help the team members work together. Note that this filter is not relevant for project monitoring (beware of micromanagement!).
